Wandsworth residents to be consulted on ward boundary changes
By Sian Bayley, Local Democracy Reporter
Residents in central Wandsworth are once again being asked for their thoughts on changes to ward boundaries.
The Local Government Boundary Commission has opened a new consultation in Wandsworth focusing on the borough’s central wards in East Putney, Southfields, Wandle, Wandsworth Town and West Hill after a number of people disagreed with the draft recommendations.
Residents have until July 27 to comment on the new plans.
East Putney ward has been changed to centre around East Putney Tube station, after residents said it was a focal point for the community.
The boundaries of West Hill ward have also gone back to the original arrangements after residents said that the current boundary works effectively and accurately reflects the local community.
The commission now wants to hear opinions on names for the proposed South Balham Ward.
The options are ‘South Balham,’ ‘Heaver’ or ‘Bedford Hill.’
The commission is happy with the response to the plans for the rest of the borough.
It will publish its final recommendations on November 3.
The Local Government Boundary Commission is an independent body that draws ward boundaries.
Wandsworth, like many London boroughs, is being reviewed to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of residents and that ward arrangements will help the council to work effectively.
