Project which provided children with devices during lockdown wins award
A project which gathered more than 370 devices for pupils in 45 schools has won an award.
Power to Connect launched in April to support families self-isolating during lockdown, and has won the ‘Community Impact’ category at the AbilityNet Tech4Good Awards.
The 10th awards ceremony, on September 24, recognised organisations and individuals which have used digital technology to improve the lives of others.
Founders Battersea Power Station and Wandsworth council launched it for families who didn’t have access to a computer or broadband at home.
Hundreds of emergency phone data top-up vouchers and Wi-Fi dongles funded by a £10,000 donation from the Battersea Power Station Foundation have been distributed to families in the borough.
The duo also collects unused laptops and tablets that are in working order, refurbishes them as Google Chromebooks with the help of volunteers, and redistributes the devices to families across Wandsworth.

A big well done to my daughter Mishayla, and my son Micheal John, I am so proud of you both for coming up with something so beneficial for everyone, and for adding value to your community, it’s so good to see you have grown up so well. I hope I’ll be able to talk to you very soon.
Love Dad
