Small rise in coronavirus patients at St George’s Hospital in Tooting

There has been a small rise in the number of coronavirus patients being treated at St George’s Hospital in Tooting this week.

The Trust has said it will now be updating figures on its website every weekday.

As of Tuesday, there were 12 Covid-19 positive patients being cared for in intensive care, and a further 34 Covid-19 positive patients cared for on the wards.

This is up slightly from the week before.

On October 27, there were eight coronavirus patients being cared for in intensive care and a further 31 on the wards.

Sadly another patient has died this week, bringing the total number of coronavirus deaths at the Trust since March to 307.

A statement on the Trust’s website said: “Our thoughts are with the families of the patients affected – and, in all cases, we would ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”

But a video posted on Twitter this week aimed to reassure patients that the hospital is safe.

Orthopaedic Consultant Shami Umarji, said: “If you have any concerns about conditions such as cancer, stroke or heart problems, or you’re concerned about your child, please continue to seek help.

“Ignoring problems can lead to serious consequences now or in the future. Most of our outpatient appointments are now done by telephone or video, but if you are coming into the hospital for a test or a procedure, we have a number of measures in place to keep you safe.”
