Woman dies in Peckham house fire

A woman has died after a house fire in Peckham yesterday evening, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Crane Street, Peckham at around 7.40pm.

Firefighters rescued one woman from the building via an internal staircase. She was given immediate emergency care by firefighters and London Ambulance Service crews, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of the first floor of the end-of-terrace house was damaged by fire. The fire was extinguished by around 9.30pm, the LFB said.

Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters from Peckham, Old Kent Road and New Cross fire station attended the scene.

A spokesman for the LFB said: “The cause of the fire is under investigation by the LFB and the Met.”
