Woman dies two weeks after being hit by royal escort motorbike

A woman has died after she was hit by a royal escort motorbike two weeks ago.

Helen Holland, 81, from Birchanger in Essex, was struck at the junction of West Cromwell Road and Warwick Road in Earl’s Court, West London, on May 10.

Following the crash, the mother of four, grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of seven was in a coma, and on Friday the police said she remained in a critical condition.

Her family told the BBC: “She fought for her life for nearly two weeks… but irreversible damage to her brain finally ended the battle today”.

The incident is being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

It is understood the Duchess of Edinburgh will be in touch privately with Ms Holland’s family.

Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment.
