Woman escapes blaze that ‘destroyed’ roof of her house

A woman escaped from a fire which completely destroyed the roof of a house yesterday morning.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters tackled the blaze in Austin Road, Forest Hill.

The roof of the two-storey end-of-terrace house and 12 solar panels were destroyed by the fire. The woman escaped the property before firefighters arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

The London Fire Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received five calls about the fire.

Firefighters were called at around 9.30am and the fire was under control by around 11.30am. Crews from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Lea Green, Greenwich and New Cross fire stations attended the scene.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the fire is being treated as accidental.
