Woolwich Ferry workers secure double digit pay increase after years of unrest
A pay victory for Woolwich Ferry workers brings years of industrial unrest to an end.
Following a series of strikes against low pay and alleged bullying, Woolwich Ferry workers have secured a pay deal which they believe recognises the contribution their workers make to the operation of the service.
Car park assistants are in line to receive a 26 per cent increase from this April.
They will also get an additional seven per cent to recognise weekend working.
Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham said: “Our members’ long-running campaign for fair pay has succeeded.
“This agreement would not have been possible without the steely determination of the workforce and their preparedness for strike action.”
Vessel crews will receive significant increases in their basic pay.
Senior deckhands on the Briggs contracts will see their pay increase from £32,996 to £39,018 to be implemented from April.
The vessel crews will receive an additional 10 per cent allowance to recognise night working.
Tricia Ashton, TfL’s Director of Rail and Sponsored Services, said: “We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with Unite. The delivery of a reliable service for our customers continues to be our key priority.”
