Youngsters surprised with football session led by Harry and Jamie Redknapp
Youngsters experienced a once-in-a-lifetime charity football training session led by Harry and Jamie Redknapp.
The event took place yesterday at the Battersea Summer Scheme’s ‘Big Play Out’ festival which is taking place all week in Battersea Park.
The festival is an annual event organised by the Battersea Crime Prevention Panel, which offers activities for disadvantaged children in the area.
This year, selected children, all from youth clubs in Battersea, were given a tactical masterclass with the Redknapps at Evolution London, in Battersea Park.
Harry spoke to the young athletes about his experience as a football manager at West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and other clubs, while Jamie reflected on the most exceptional players he has played with throughout his career.
Harry said: “It’s fantastic to see the smiles on these kids’ faces.
“Football has the power to bring people together and create positive change, and it’s an honour to be part of this initiative.
“I hope today’s session inspires them to follow their dreams, both on and off the pitch.”
The children then headed out on to the pitch for a training session, including drills and five-a-side games, as well as receiving hands-on coaching from Harry, Jamie and other ex-professional football players.
As a special gift each child was presented with a pair of football boots, the same worn by Harry Kane at the 2024 Euros – the Skechers SKX 01 and RAZOR.
Vanessa Wride, administrator at the Battersea Summer Scheme, said: “This festival is all about creating special moments and opportunities for the children in our community.
“Having the Redknapps here today, along with the support from Rockwell and Skechers, has made this event truly unforgettable.
“The kids are leaving with new skills, inspiration, and the confidence to pursue their passions.”
