No international break likely to be on cards for Charlton Athletic – as Barnsley match set to go ahead

Charlton are set to be without keeper Joe Wollacott for their League One match at Barnsley on September 24 after he was named in the Ghana squad for two friendlies.

The 25-year-old, signed on a free transfer this summer after he rejected new terms at Swindon, is hoping to gain minutes against Brazil in Le Havre, France on September 23. Otto Addo’s side face Nicaragua in Lorca, Spain four days later.

Craig MacGillivray, the subject of transfer interest from Dundee United at the end of the last window, looks likely to deputise.

Wollacott has played every minute in League One for the Addicks this season as well as starting their EFL Cup wins over QPR and Walsall.

MacGillivray seems set to step in if, as expected, Wollacott is called up by Ghana for the World Cup, which starts in Qatar in late November. They are in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Charlton or the Tykes would need three players selected for international duty to have the option to postpone.

Barnsley sanctioned three deadline day deals – Hungarian international Callum Styles joined Millwall on loan while midfielder Clarke Oduor, capped once by Kenya, made a deadline day temporary switch to Hartlepool. Huddersfield signed Poland international Michal Helik.
