Police try to reassure women after murder of Johanita Dogbey

The Met have released a statement from the policing commander in Lambeth in an attempt to reassure women following the murder on Monday of Johanita Dogbey.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, policing commander in Lambeth, said: “The tragic murder of Johanita Dogbey in Brixton has had a significant impact on the community and my thoughts are with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. 

“Officers have worked around the clock since Monday to investigate what happened and gather evidence. 

“It is important there is now no commentary which could in any way prejudice future legal proceedings.

“Tackling violence on the streets of London, including attacks on women and girls, is a priority for the Met.

“Our community engagement team in Lambeth has been speaking with community partners, including youth and women’s groups, to ensure we are having the right conversations with those we serve, and we will continue to do this in the weeks and months to come.”

Mohamed Nur, 33, of Bond Way, Vauxhall, was charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has also been charged with a further count of possession of an offensive weapon and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm against two women and a man.

The two women and a man suffered slash injuries in separate incidents in Town Hall Parade, Brixton Road and Acre Lane in Brixton, that happened within a one-hour period on Saturday.

Johanita’s family released a tribute to her yesterday.

They said: “Our hearts are completely broken and will not understand why someone would take our beautiful girl away from us.”
