Ryan Leonard set for scan on ankle after Millwall’s Mr Versatile misses Bournemouth match

Ryan Leonard is set to go for a scan after the Millwall midfielder missed last night’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth complaining of discomfort in his ankle.

Danny McNamara replaced Leonard in the starting line-up at The Den.

Leonard ended up being sidelined for six months with an ankle injury that he sustained in February – the eventual diagnosis being that he needed an operation.

The 29-year-old has made 16 appearances this season for the South London club.

And he was due to start against the Cherries.

Lions manager Gary Rowett told the South London Press: “We didn’t expect Lenny to feel his ankle this morning [Wednesday]. He felt nothing yesterday and trained yesterday – we did our organisation and he got through the whole session without any problems. But he just felt it in the evening and the middle of the night. He wasn’t right today.

“We’ve got to just hope it’s something slightly innocuous. Sometimes when something happens and no incidents make it happen there is that little element of concern. Is there a little bit of damage in there from his previous operation? We won’t look into it too much until we get it scanned. Hopefully there won’t be anything too severe.”
