Last year’s Wimbledon quarter-finalist Madison Keys is safely through to the third round of this year’s Championships after beating China’s Yafan Wang in straight sets.

Keys won 6-2, 6-2 in 1hr 17mins in No.12 Court’s first match of day four of this year’s Wimbledon.

The American world number 13 made her mark on the match immediately, breaking her opponent in the first game thanks to some blistering power on the forehand side.

Wang just about held serve in the next game off her racket, having to see off five deuces in the process.

Keys’ extra power was evident in this match and she never really looked like dropping her serve as she moved into a 4-2 lead.

Wang was broken again for 2-5  – Keys producing a fantastic backhand cross-court pass before cracking a backhand return down the line to cement the double break – then winning the set with an ace.

Wang showed spirit in the opening game of the next set, but after a marathon 15 minutes it was Keys who broke once again – producing a fine cross-court forehand to take the seventh break point of the game.

Keys then held serve to race into a 4-2 lead before a lucky net cord and an unforced error on the forehand side from Wang handed the American the double break at 5-2.

Wang put some pressure on the Keys racket in the next game to go into a 0-30 lead, but Keys’ superiority showed as she took the next four points to secure victory.
