Number 4 seed Jessica Pegula is safely through to the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time, after a 6-4/6-0 win over Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
The American was pushed all the way by the world number 43 in the first set, breaking the Italian in the final game to win it 6-4.
But the second set was a procession, Pegula winning with a clean sweep.
Cocciaretto left the court for some time between sets, prompting her opponent to ask the umpire of her whereabouts.
And that seemed to pump up the American, who didn’t drop a single point until the fifth game of the second set, and finished it off with a fine forehand pass.
