‘A big reaction’ – Exeter boss makes demand from squad ahead of Charlton Athletic trip

Gary Caldwell wants to see “a big reaction” from his Exeter City side at Charlton Athletic tomorrow night after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Northampton on Saturday.

Exeter went behind in the 20th minute after Sam Hopkins opened the scoring for Northampton.

The visitors claimed the three points in second half added time thanks to Patrick Brough.

Exeter – eighth in League One – head to The Valley on Tuesday evening with Charlton unbeaten in Michael Appleton’s first three outings as boss.

Speaking after the defeat at home, Caldwell said: “I would like to see a reaction.

“We have good people and players who should be hurting and I want to see a big reaction at Charlton.

“Not a lot of players come out [of this game] with credit, so everyone has to be ready, and we have to pick a team that was much more ready than today.

“It was an opportunity for other players to come in and take it and, too often, they have not been ready.

“We will need everyone to be successful in three competitions and when the opportunities are coming, the players are not taking them.”
