‘A centre-forward legend’ – Former Millwall loanee Harry Kane earns praise from Neil Harris after England milestone

Neil Harris has expressed his admiration for Harry Kane after the former Millwall loan signing scored twice on his 100th appearance for England.

The striker, now at Bayern Munich, wore gold boots at Wembley to mark his milestone moment on Tuesday night.

Kane bagged a brace in his country’s Nations League 2-0 win over Finland in north London.

The former Tottenham star has 68 international goals.

He has talked before about his temporary move to Millwall being a big positive push forward in his development.

“I was 18, we were in a relegation battle and it turned me into a man,” Kane told The Guardian in 2018. “I played in difficult, high-pressure games and I managed to come out of it positively. I had a great time at the club.”

Lions head coach Harris is the South London club’s all-time record goalscorer.

Talking about Kane’s achievement of a century of games for the Three Lions, Harris told the South London Press: “I’m a massive, massive, massive Harry Kane fan.

“He is an absolute centre-forward legend. To lead the line for our country for so long is a phenomenal achievement – his performances and goals.

“You talk about players who don’t get recognition, if he was playing for Barcelona, Real Madrid or Manchester City, he would be elevated as one of the top three strikers in the world.  Because he played for Spurs he didn’t get the recognition in our country for his caps, goals and achievements he produced under Gareth Southgate and performing really well in tournaments.

“I didn’t play with him here, but we’re a proud football club to say that Harry Kane represented us.

“We’re proud that Harry played for Millwall. He has talked so fondly of his time and development here. He learned so much. A huge part of his development and his career was to come here and experience first-team football. Experiencing The Den and playing for Millwall and the fans.

“He progressed and progressed. He’s a model pro the way he conducts his life as a family man. His goalscoring record is phenomenal.

“I can’t imagine how tough it is to captain your country, having watched from afar the recklessness people conducted themselves around hammering the team, Gareth and Harry in the last tournament after getting to a final.

“The pressure he must be under every time he puts on an England shirt is phenomenal. I can’t speak anymore highly of him.”
