‘A couple of months’ – Neil Harris confirms Millwall duo set for injury sideline spell

Neil Harris has confirmed that Millwall duo Adam Mayor and Connal Trueman are both set for spells on the sidelines after picking up injuries.

Mayor joined from League Two side Morecambe last January and made four appearances as he adapted to the Championship.

The 19-year-old winger was gearing up for his first full season with the Lions.

“Adam is going to be out for a couple of months,” said Harris.

“I’m not going to put a specific time on it. It’s his hamstring.

“We’re really disappointed for Adam. 

“Adam was hoping to come back and blow us away in pre-season with his natural ability, with a view to then us thinking about whether we keep him for the first half of the season or we let him out to League One to go and play 20 games before Christmas to develop him at the next level.

“To bridge the gap between League Two in the first half of last season and the Championship in the second half of last season.

“That’s very unlikely that will happen at the moment. Adam is a very young man who is a great athlete with great attributes and we will make sure we get him up to speed as quickly as possible.”

First-team stopper Trueman is the only current goalkeeper on the books with the Lions after the tragic passing of number one Matija Sarkic on June 15.

Experienced stopper Bart Bialkowski also left The Den at the end of last season following the end of his contract.

The Lions take on League Two side Gillingham in pre-season on Saturday.

“Connal Trueman has unfortunately rolled his ankle,” said Harris.

“It’s a real bizarre one. Soft tissue injuries at the moment are obviously hated by us but absolutely normal.

“Adam’s hamstring is no surprise in certain players. I really feel for Connal Trueman.

“He was a player who was coming back to really fight for a jersey this summer and he has damaged his ankle ligaments, unfortunately.

“It’s a real, real unfortunate and random accident that no one can control.

“I really feel for him because a window of opportunity opened up for him to impress and he’s very disheartened off the back of the last 48 hours.

“We look forward to getting Connal back on the pitch as soon as we can, but like Adam, it’s not going to be for a couple of months.”
