‘A great test’ – Dons boss pleased with Aron Sasu’s display in Charlton win
Johnnie Jackson was impressed with Aron Sasu’s display at left wing-back in AFC WImbledon’s 2-0 pre-season win over League One side Charlton Athletic,
The 19-year-old forward started the game on the left side of a back five – a role he has been playing consistently in the build-up to the 2024-25 season.
Sasu played as a winger or a striker last season and penned a new two-year deal over the summer break.
Croydon-born Sasu was up against Tennai Watson, 27, when going forward and also trying to keep out Matty Godden and Chuks Aneke in the first half.
Goals from Josh Kelly and Ryan Johnson gave Johnnie Jackson’s side the win.
“It was a great test for him,” said Jackson.
“He was up against good players. He had to do both sides of it, which I liked.
“We all know what he can do when he gets the ball and how exciting he can be, but what pleased me most with Sas today was the out of possession stuff and how he did a job for the team defensively when we needed him to.
“You’re always going to see the forward stuff, because that’s the way he plays.
“We want to get him on the ball in those areas, but equally, in that role, you have to do the other side of it.
“I thought he did that really well today.”
