‘A leader’ – Fleetwood assistant boss praises Jayden Stockley ahead of Charlton return
Fleetwood Town assistant manager Stephen Whittaker has hailed new arrival Jayden Stockley as a leader – with the forward heading back to Charlton Athletic for the first time since leaving the club in the January window.
The 29-year-old left in January after a season-and-a-half with the South Londoners, joining League One rivals Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.
Ex-Bournemouth and Portsmouth forward Stockley made 89 appearances during his time at The Valley, netting 31 times and recording six assists.
Stockley scored on his debut for the Cod Army in their 3-2 win against Burton Albion.
“Jayden is a great character as well – he’s a leader,” said Whittaker. “It’s something that we have lacked at the top end of the pitch, so we’re hoping that he brings that togetherness and voice up there, which will help.
“He’s played loads of games at this level, so he’s someone that we’re delighted to work with.”
Fleetwood – 17th in League One – are eight points behind Dean Holden’s side heading into this weekend’s clash.
“The players shouldn’t be fazed by going to a club like Charlton,” added Whittaker.
“We will have our game plan and the style we want to play, so let’s see whether we can implement those and take the points on the day.”
I am not a betting man, but you just know that Jayden will score against us on Saturday, so it would be a good £10.00 spent backing that prediction. I just hope I am wrong, but I will not be placing a bet on Jayden scoring against us, my loyalty would not allow it. !! It is a shame that the last 2 managers have not played Jayden to his strengths, but I am sure that Fleetwood will. He can be a real handful and I would imagine Innis and co will not be relishing the challenge.
