A point was the least we deserved – Charlton boss Lee Bowyer praises side after draw at Fulham
BY LOUIS MENDEZ
Charlton boss Lee Bowyer was pleased with the point his side earned at Fulham – but felt they should have had all three.
The Addicks twice led thanks to goals from Conor Gallagher and Macauley Bonne but were pegged back by Ivan Cavaleiro and Aleksandar Mitrovic – although replays showed the latter’s equaliser should have been ruled out for offside.
“A well-earned point,” explained the Addicks manager.
“I think that was the least that we deserved. We started the game well and pressed them high. They’re not used to that. We surprised them a bit. We defended well and got our shape right. We set traps and won the ball back in good areas and moved the ball well in the first-half. We caused them a lot of problems.
“If anything, if we had taken care a bit more in the final third or with our final pass, we could have hurt them a bit more.
“Overall, a point was fair but their second goal was offside. That’s what hurts. They gave me everything. They’re a pleasure to work with and they’ve been robbed today of three points from a decision that wasn’t a difficult decision.
“It was the perfect away performance. They’re a good side, a top side. This week we’ve played Leeds, Swansea and Fulham. They will probably be in the top three. Leeds are the best side but Fulham have the best squad and they will be up there at the end of the season. Scotty (Parker) has got them playing well and they’ve got some good players that can hurt you. But my lads keep going. I love them for it.”
