Accrington boss Coleman: It helped us playing at an empty Valley – we faced Charlton at the right time
Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman felt they caught Charlton at the right time after last night’s 2-0 win at The Valley.
Colby Bishop’s double knocked the Addicks out of the League One play-off positions.
Coleman said: “I feel for Charlton – they have been blighted with injuries and suspensions. We probably got them at the right time.
“They are a good side. You could see that – they put us under a lot of pressure. Great game to watch for the neutral, end to end.
“We’ve got a steely determination in our squad and a great set of lads. You could see how hard they worked tonight.
“We had a little more in our legs, because we hadn’t played for a while. The rustiness does display at times in certain areas where we give the ball away and didn’t track men like we’d like to. But overall it was a very, very good away performance.
“It might be different coming to The Valley when there is 10,000 or 15,000 here. The atmosphere probably suits us playing in these big stadiums when there is nobody here and we can get the ball down and play our game and the crowd can’t lift them.
“It will be interesting to see if the crowds stay away until the end of the season. I still don’t want that – I want the enthusiasm of the fans. Football without fans is a very poor imitation.
“Both teams showed an attacking trait. They both wanted to score goals and get forwards.”
