AFC Wimbledon boss wants key striker to extend future

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson says there is an eagerness with all parties involved to extend Omar Bugiel’s contract.

The 30-year-old joined on a free transfer from League Two rivals Sutton in the summer and netted his ninth and 10th goals of the season in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Gillingham.

Bugiel only penned a one-year deal when he joined Plough Lane.

He has made 41 appearances under the former Charlton boss this season.

“I have had good conversations with Omar,” said Jackson.

“He loves being here and we love having him here.

“There is an eagerness on everyone’s part to try and secure his future.”

When asked if Bugiel was the most important signing of the summer, Jackson said: “He was an important signing, there is no getting away from it.

“The reason I signed him was because of what he did to my team last season.

“I saw in him what you need at this level to be a successful team. We moved quickly to do that but we made a lot of good signings.

“The first one we did was the skipper [Jake Reeves], he was someone I had long courted after he captained Stevenage to promotion.

“There were a few we went after early and we were pleased to get.

“Omar is getting the plaudits now and I’ll let him have his moment.”
