AFC Wimbledon closing on former Swindon and Charlton goalkeeper deal

AFC Wimbledon are closing in on a deal to sign free agent goalkeeper Lewis Ward.

The South London Press understands that the 27-year-old is poised to head with the Dons to their pre-season warm weather training camp in Spain.

Wimbledon chose to revamp their goalkeeper department this summer, with Alex Bass returning to Sunderland following the end of his season-long loan and Nik Tzanev being released.

Ward has 63 League Two outings to his name and has kept 15 clean sheets in the fourth tier.

The ex-Sutton United, Swindon, Exeter and Forest Green stopper left Charlton at the end of last season.

He looks set to battle it out for the starting spot in Johnnie Jackson’s side with Crystal Palace youngster Owen Goodman.

The Dons have agreed a deal with the Eagles to sign the former Colchester United youngster on loan for the season.
