AFC Wimbledon draw Chelsea in EFL Cup second round after causing Coventry upset

AFC Wimbledon will take on Premier League side Chelsea in the second round of the EFL Cup after knocking out Coventry on Wednesday evening.

The Dons came from a goal down against the Championship side to win 2-1 thanks to late strikes from Omar Bugiel and Ryan McLean.

This will be the first time Wimbledon have played Chelsea as a phoenix club. The tie at Stamford Bridge is set to take place in the week commencing August 28.

Chelsea have won the competition four times.

Wimbledon reached the third round in the 2021-22 season when they were knocked out by Arsenal at The Emerties.
