AFC Wimbledon keeping eyes peeled and offering support for vulnerable fans

The AFC Wimbledon Foundation are finding new ways of supporting the south-west London
community with their usual work having been put on hold.
Foundation staff are working with the football club and calling senior Wimbledon season ticket holders to check in on them, see if there’s any help or support they need, or simply to have a chat.
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, much of the work of the AFC Wimbledon Foundation
cannot go ahead for the time being. This includes various school programmes, football courses,
walking football and disability programmes. Staff and trustees of the Foundation were determined
to find innovative ways that the Foundation could continue to support our community at this
difficult time.
As well as the calls, foundation staff are also in touch with local councils to offer support to school
hubs that are still caring for the children of key workers and to support the Dons Local Action Group
with their collections and hotline.
Foundation Director, Philip Rudling said: “The safety of our staff, fans and community is our main
priority, which is why, in line with Government advice, we paused all of our face to face activities last
week.
“We know that this is a challenging time for all of us but particularly our older fans who are more
likely to be socially isolated and vulnerable and less likely to have access to the internet to be able to
shop online. We’re reaching out to as many of these supporters as possible to see if we can help
them or simply to have a friendly phone call.”
The team will be calling through supporters in the coming days and offering regular calls to those
