AFC Wimbledon new boy has one-word answer when asked what he needs to deliver during loan stay
Marcus Forss gives a one word answer when asked what is expected of him during his AFC Wimbledon stay – goals.
The Dons boosted their striking options before Monday’s loan deadline by taking the Finnish U21 international on loan from Brentford, writes Richard Cawley.
The Bees clearly have high hopes for Forss as he penned a new four-year contract before his season-long stay with Wimbledon was confirmed.
“I got told they wanted me and I wanted to play,” explained the Turku-born forward, 20.
“Goals [is what Wally Downes expects from him]. I think I will do that.”
The Dons were one of a host of League One clubs to enquire about Tom Elliott.
But the finances involved in landing their former striker proved too much. Elliott ended up staying at Millwall – at least until the January transfer window.
“He’s not a traditional, big number nine in the [James] Hanson bracket,” said the Wimbledon boss.
“They are incredibly expensive to find for us at the level we’re at.
“Everyone is after a big centre-forward and they cost a few quid.
“He [Forss] is fine in the air but he has different attributes. He is very quick and has a great eye for a goal.
“They tell me in training that he is right up there as one of the best finishers they have got at Brentford. I’m highly delighted to get him on board.
“There was a lot of haggling by us and a lot of goodwill from Brentford. It was just us trying to get as good a deal as we could get.”
Wimbledon also signed Brighton midfielder Max Sanders and Rochdale defender Ryan Delaney.
Delaney, 22, has won one cap with the Republic of Ireland.
Sanders, 20, has captained Albion’s U23 side.
Downes said: “We’ve got young players I was relying on to be in the squad early on – Jack Rudoni and Kyron [Stabana].
“They have been on the bench and played pre-season games – but it is a big ask to go from that into a young team.
“I want them to go out on loan, learn their trade, and then come back to us.”
