AFC Wimbledon chief Erik Samuelson was confident Tuesday night’s home game against Blackburn Rovers was going to go ahead – despite the extreme cold weather.

The Dons host the League One leaders at their Cherry Red Records Stadium, the first of three successive home fixtures for Neal Ardley’s side.

And Samuelson dismissed talk of a pitch inspection when the South London Press contacted him on Monday morning.

“You only get a pitch inspection when you feel you need it,” he said. “The pitch was cut, marked out and then covered. Some extra covers have then been added. Chelsea use the ground as well and put some extra covers on.

“You can’t tell with this weather, but at the moment there is nothing to say it won’t be played. There is no question of a pitch inspection because there isn’t a severe doubt.

“We will keep an eye on it all the time. If we end up with six inches of snow and there is severe doubt, we will announce it on our website. At the moment there is no reason to feel we need one.

“We are very aware of our responsibilities to fans if it does look in any doubt. But the pitch is fine at the moment and is thoroughly covered.”
