AFC Wimbledon’s home game against Portsmouth is off
AFC Wimbledon’s home game against Portsmouth tomorrow has been postponed.
It means that Charlton Athletic are the only South London club due to be in action. Millwall had a Covid-19 outbreak which forced their home match against Preston to be called off.
And Crystal Palace’s scheduled match at Watford will also not take place. The Premier League had already postponed the Hornets’ fixture at Burnley as they also suffered from a rise in cases.
“Portsmouth informed the EFL that it would be unable to fulfil the fixture at the Cherry Red Records Stadium due to a number of positive Covid-19 cases in their squad,” said AFC Wimbledon in a statement on their official site.
“In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant, the EFL will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement. In a statement announcing the postponement, the EFL added that it will assist affected clubs throughout this challenging period to help them mitigate the risk of infection amongst players and staff, while ensuring their obligations to the EFL regulations are maintained.
“A rearranged date for the fixture and information about refunds will be announced in due course.”
