Aiden McGeady: Charlton Athletic loan looked the ideal fit
Charlton have been described as the “ideal fit” by Aiden McGeady as he looks for a strong finish to the campaign.
The 33-year-old signed on loan from Sunderland on the final day of the January transfer window.
“I wouldn’t want to be disrespectful about the other options that I turned down,” said McGeady.
“When I got the phone call about Charlton it seemed the ideal fit.
“I’d played against them and had seen the style implemented by the manager and the way he had his team set up.
“A deal was bubbling from about 3pm onwards on the Thursday. I wasn’t quite sure if it was going to happen. Then I got the call from my agent at 6pm saying to pack my bags and get the train down to London. Then I came straight to the training ground. It was a late night, by the time I’d done the medical and press stuff, like pictures, I was finished at 1pm in the morning.
“I spoke to Lee Bowyer at the training ground and he said some complimentary things about me.
“Ideally you want to play for a manager who has trust in you and believes in you.”
