Albie Morgan absence explained by Charlton Athletic chief

Albie Morgan has not been named in Charlton Athletic’s last three matchday squads – with Lee Bowyer confirming the academy product is not injured.

The 21-year-old midfielder’s most recent appearance was as an 89th-minute substitute in the 3-2 loss to Gillingham at The Valley.

Morgan’s last start came against Portsmouth. He was subbed off at half time.

Asked if there was a knock keeping the player out of his matchday plans, Bowyer replied: “He’s okay. We have got competition for places.

“He is still a young lad learning the game.”

Bowyer was set to assess the fitness of Akin Famewo today to determine if the on-loan Norwich City defender was ready to start at Wigan tomorrow night.

He only recently returned from an ankle injury but has played two of the last three League One matches.

“We’ll have a chat this morning and with the medical team,” said Bowyer. “But Akin did alright again [against Blackpool]. There are times you don’t want to leave players out but I’m forced into it.

“Akin has played a few games now. We’ll see how he is feeling.”
