Alex Woodyard can’t wait for fans to be at Plough Lane and gives his experience of Covid-19

BY KAI BENNETT
AFC Wimbledon midfielder Alex Woodyard has talked about his own personal experiences through Covid-19 and can’t wait for the fans to be able to return to Plough Lane.
Since signing on a free transfer in the summer the midfielder has made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Dons.
Woodyard told the club’s website: “It’s been tough. It’s been hard, because sometimes when football is not always going right, it’s nice to go out with your friends and let your hair down.
“We haven’t been able to do that, so it’s been football, football, football constantly. That’s been tough for a lot of people, because there’s no release from your work life.
“We know it’s not going to last forever, it’s just about being strong, sticking together, family, friends, us as a football team and a football club to get through this because the best days are yet to come.”
Woodyard sympathises with the Dons fans that are at home, waiting to see their team play in the flesh.
“They go to work all week and that’s their little release on a Saturday, coming to watch their team, I really feel for them.
“For us players as well, I love to play in front of fans because I love that buzz. I love to give the fans a performance and it’s been tough but it’s just about getting through the season, fighting as a team to make sure we get over the line.
“We will [get over the line] if we put in those performances like Robbo’s always said, if the process is always right, the outcome will take care of itself. So we have to keep putting those performances in and we will get the wins.
“As a whole club we have to stick together, really all get through this time and hopefully next year all the fans will be back in and it will be a real party when all the fans get to come back to Plough Lane.
“It’s going to be brilliant, we have to just make sure that this football club is still in League One for them to make that day even more special.”
