Alexander Sims returns to Formula E action for flagship home race in London

Clapham racing driver Alexander Sims returns to action in The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship this weekend for the highly anticipated 2021 Heineken® London E-Prix.

This year’s event will signal more than five years (1,847 days) since London last hosted top-flight international motorsport, with last year’s race postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Before that you would have to go back to 1972 at the now disused Crystal Palace Race Track.

Having raced at Battersea Park last time out, the emission free Gen2 cars will race at London’s Royal Docks at a bespoke indoor/outdoor circuit – a world first in international motorsport.

In fact, this is the first major event taking place at the ExCeL London venue in the city’s docklands since the location was repurposed as a Nightingale Hospital and Vaccination Centre early on in the pandemic.

Jaguar Racing’s British star Sam Bird goes into the weekend as the World Championship leader after an impressive lights-to-flag victory in the previous round in New York City. Sims, meanwhile, currently sits in 16th place in the Drivers’ standings after a sixth placed finish last time out in the Big Apple.

You can catch all the action from the ExCeL London for Rounds 12 & 13 of Season 7 of The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship live from 14:00 BST on Channel 4 on Saturday 24 July and from 13:40 on Sunday 25 July.
