Alfie Doughty and Albie Morgan set for Charlton Athletic loan exits

Lee Bowyer thought Alfie Doughty was the best of Charlton’s young players on show in their League Cup loss to Forest Green Rovers.
The 19-year-old’s favoured role is as a left winger but he played in a full-back role at The Valley last night.
Doughty is available for loan and likely to head out of SE7 before the end of this month.
Asked about his display, Bowyer said: “Good energy – not the best final ball. I don’t really remember him picking anyone out. He got into some good areas.
“The most pleasing thing for me with Alfie is when he did give it away – all players do that – his reaction was to go and win it back.
“Out of the young ones, I’d say he probably was the better one.”
Bowyer wants the likes of Doughty and Albie Morgan to go out and gain more senior football.
He said: “That just shows you – they are playing against a good League Two side and some of them struggled a little bit at times
“We’re in the Championship – completely different physicality. The pace – they are not ready for it. It’s blatantly obvious to see. But it is good for them to go on loan and learn game, whether it is in or out of possession.
“We’re borrowing players – it’s the same for most clubs.”

Couldn’t agree more. Yet again, an early exit from a cup competition to a lower league side. Take nothing away from Forest Green, they were good, but the Charlton ‘2nd string’ were a bit disappointing to say the least and why Jake Foster-Caskey took the penalty in normal time is a mystery to me. An opportunity for further ‘minutes’ missed, so out on loan is the best way as these two players show promise.
Thanks to all at The Valley for your hospitality last night. In fairness, that was FGR’s 2nd string too – well with a small squad, all the ‘bench players’ started and an Academy player was included. Our captain is 28, most of the others 18-22. We had the youngest team in the EFL last year and it is younger this season. But Coops coaches the ‘right way’
