Alfie Doughty gets offer of new Charlton Athletic terms – with Addicks owner Sandgaard hoping winger commits future
Alfie Doughty has been offered an improved contract by Charlton Athletic – with owner Thomas Sandgaard hoping they can secure the flying winger on new terms.
The 20-year-old attracted bids from Celtic in the last transfer window as well as interest from English sides.
Doughty is out with a torn hamstring.
Addicks manager Lee Bowyer told the South London Press today that the academy product had been the subject of a fresh deal offer.
And Sandgaard – talking last week – told our paper: “Yeah, we’re talking to Alfie and his agent.
“He’s currently injured – as we all know – but has certainly made a name for himself.
“Celtic in Scotland and other clubs are very interested in him.
“His pace is really something to take notice of and can be a huge asset for any club.
“We hope we can continue having Alfie at the club. He’s a great asset and one of the many investments we’ve made in youth players over the years.
“I hope he’ll continue the journey with us. Hopefully we’ll get promoted again – in not too long. If Alfie stays with us he might even be playing Premier League football one day.”
“We have a January window coming up and I’m looking forward to strengthening the midfield and the offence a little bit.”
As I said a couple of weeks ago, I hope this torn hamstring heals 100%, otherwise his greatest asset – pace, may not be as good. Fingers crossed for that and also hoping he accepts the new contract.
