Andros Townsend is the only South London winner at awards night – Crystal Palace, Charlton and Millwall players got nominations
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Andros Townsend was the sole South London winner at the 2019 London Football Awards, held at Battersea Evolution.
The Eagles winner won the Goal of the Year award for his breathtaking strike at Manchester City towards the end of December.
Townsend was also nominated for Premier League Player of the Year but that went to Tottenham’s Heung-min Son.
Charlton’s Lee Bowyer was a nominee for the Manager of the Year – claimed by Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino.
Lyle Taylor, Karlan Grant and Lee Gregory were all shortlisted for EFL Player of the Year but Brentford’s French striker Neal Maupay was the winner.
Watford’s Ben Foster won Goalkeeper of the Year with Charlton’s Dillon Phillips among the nominees.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Grant were in contention for Young Player of the Year but lost out to West Ham’s Declan Rice.
