Andy Scott leaves technical director role at Charlton Athletic

Andy Scott is leaving his role as Charlton Athletic technical director.

The South London Press broke the news on social media on the development.

Scott, 52, had been in the post since July 2023.

He had initially been appointed in December 2022 on an interim basis while a takeover group, SE7 Partners, pulled together by Charlie Methven entered into a period of exclusivity with then owner Thomas Sandgaard.

Scott left in February of the following year as Sandgaard broke off the process but then returned when SE7 Partners did complete a deal for the League One club.

Charlton have since confirmed that Scott has gone.

He told the club’s website: “This has been one of my most challenging and rewarding roles during what has been a demanding time – but I’m proud of where I leave the club both on and off the pitch. I firmly believe that the infrastructure at Sparrows Lane is now Championship quality.

“I’m especially proud of the quality of staff and players we’ve recruited – our performance services, recruitment and data departments are in an extremely healthy position and the acquisition of young players like Conor [Coventry], Kayne [Ramsay] and Thierry [Small] has not only improved the squad but also provided key assets for the future.

“We’ve been able to provide a pathway for some exciting young academy players to break into the men’s first team environment and I’m sure they’ll take the club from strength to strength.

“It’s been a very hard decision to leave but I feel now is the right time to explore other opportunities that have been made available to me.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Nathan and would like to thank him as well as the first team and Academy staff members and all of the players for their hard work and dedication and I wish the club all the best. I expect and look forward to visiting Charlton Athletic in the Championship very soon.”

Addicks managing director Jim Rodwell added: “We’d like to thank Andy for his tireless efforts during his time at the club. He came in at a period of change for Charlton to a club that had been underachieving for a number of years.

“He’s been a key driver of change, improving the culture and professionalism at the training ground. He has put in place a footballing structure, new performance department which we are really starting to see the benefits of and is responsible for recruiting some of our key player assets. He goes with our best wishes and he’ll always be welcome back to the club.”
