Archie Sharp defends WBO European title on Saturday against unbeaten Latvian
Archie Sharp makes the third defence of his WBO European super-featherweight title on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old, who boasts a 17-0 record, takes on the unbeaten Artjoms Ramlavs at the Copper Box Arena.
The main event sees Greenwich heavyweight Daniel Dubois take on Japan’s Kyotaro Fujimoto for the WBO International and WBC Silver titles.
Latvia’s Ramlavs is 11-0 and has six stoppages.
Sharp said: “Facing an unbeaten fighter brings another dynamic because every time he has shown up before he has won. He’s now got a shot at the WBO European title, so we will see how he turns up.
“I’ve just got to make sure I am in tip-top shape and able to adapt to whatever he brings on December 21. It is another lively one and they are all going to be that now.
“He is a southpaw and I see he had a bit of amateur pedigree.”
Sharp took out Declan Geraghty with a peach of a punch in the fourth round in his last ring outing at the Royal Albert Hall in September.
That was the second defence of his WBO title which he won by outpointing Leon Woodstock Jr – who had a perfect record at the time – in late 2018.
Sharp said: “We have got another unbeaten fighter to come and take me on and he is a little bit shorter than Declan – that will probably work a little bit in my favour.”
Croydon’s Sunny Edwards faces Marcel Braithwaite for the vacant British super-flyweight title on the same Frank Warren show.
Sydenham heavyweight Jonathan Palata was on the end of a shock result in the UltimateBoxxer tournament on Friday night.
The 31-year-old was one of the favourites to win the competition – which saw eight boxers battle it out on the night for a cash prize.
But Palata lost a unanimous decision to Danny Whitaker, a late substitute entrant, at Planet Ice in Altincham.
