Patrick Vieira reiterates Crystal Palace summer transfer wish ahead of winter window

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has reiterated that he would like to add more experience to his squad over this upcoming transfer window.

The Frenchman made it clear over the summer that he wanted to bring in more experience to help his young side after losing the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate, 33, and Christian Benteke, 32.

Vieira also admitted ahead of the season that he wanted a different profile of forward to bolster his attacking options before the summer window closed.

Chairman Steve Parish revealed during an interview with the club’s official website that the priority during the January window will be loan signings, citing that a post-World Cup market was “dangerous”.

Palace are targeting Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was sold to Manchester United in 2019 for £50millon, but would favour a loan deal rather than a permanent one.

“I believe that the squad and the team need experience,” said Vieira of whether he believed his squad still needed the additions he required in the summer.

“We need different characteristics as well. We want to improve the squad. I hope we will find those players and make it happen.”

James McArthur, 35, has been missing for the entire season with a hip injury since he featured in a pre-season friendly against QPR.

Vieira told the press following the 1-1 draw with Botafogo that the Scottish midfielder had suffered a step back in his injury recovery.

“The last couple of weeks have been good,” explained Vieira.

“He has started going back on the field and doing some individual work.

“He hasn’t progressed as quickly as expected, but the hip is taking time. We have to wait and be patient with James.”
