‘Barnsley and Wrexham tests better than a 25-0 win over the Dog & Duck’ – Charlton boss relishing challenge
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones is happy that the big League One tests keep on coming as they travel to Barnsley tomorrow night before hosting Wrexham on Saturday.
The Addicks are expecting a big crowd for the visit of the Welsh club on Saturday.
Wrexham are second in the table after their 1-0 victory on Saturday at Rotherham United and have three former Charlton players in their ranks – George Dobson, Elliot Lee and Eoghan O’Connell.
Barnsley are eighth in the standings and defeated Blackpool 2-1 away at the weekend.
Asked about the unrelenting nature of the fixtures after Charlton’s 1-1 draw against Stockport County on Saturday, Jones said: “Barnsley and then Wrexham…so a really big week. We enjoy these games, this is why we’re in football.
“With the greatest respect I don’t want to play against the Dog & Duck and win 25-0. I’d prefer to have the big games where you’re testing yourself and your team. That is what we’re looking forward to.”
“The last two performances have been excellent, they really have. Two home performances that have taken four points against two promotion [fancied] teams. Birmingham scored three again today – so it showed what a level of performance we had here [to restrict them to no shots on target].
“That is the only frustrating thing, that we’ve probably lost a little bit of ground today when we were the better team.”
