‘Battered and bruised’ – Bradford caretaker boss praises ability to grind out victory over AFC Wimbledon

Bradford caretaker boss Kevin McDonald praised his side’s ability to grind out their 1-0 win at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon.

The Bantams claimed all three points via Emmanuel Osadebe in the 62nd minute when the substitute collected Andy Cook’s flick-on and diverted a shot beyond Sunderland loanee Alex Bass.

Ex-Fulham midfielder McDonald has won all three of his games in charge of Bradford since being announced as caretaker manager following Mark Hughes’ dismissal.

Bradford ended Wimbledon’s five-game unbeaten run.

“There were certain parts of it where we were a little bit off it at times,” McDonald told Bradford’s YouTube channel.

“And then there were other parts of it where we were really good at times.

“That’s part of football – you can’t dominate for 90 minutes.

“It’s pleasing that we got the three points.

“Sometimes these are the best wins. You go away, you grind it out and you’re battered and bruised. You go home and that’s you – it’s a good three points.

“It’s good to be able to come here, work hard, and understand that you need that to win games.

“You can’t beat a 1-0. I would rather a 1-0 than a 4-3 – it is hard work.

“We defended well – it was pleasing.”
