Ben Thompson producing right quality for Millwall – as boss talks about gulf between Championship and League One

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Neil Harris was pleased to see Ben Thompson score his first Championship goal for Millwall – one of the bright spots in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Preston North End.

The midfielder had spent the first half of the campaign shining on loan for Portsmouth.

Thompson came off the bench at the weekend to cut the deficit.

“I’m delighted for him,” said Lions boss Harris. “He had a great first half of the season and came back here to play some games.

“He knew he was not going to come back and play every minute of every game, because he is still learning. There is such a gulf between League One and the Championship now.

“For Ben to come in and get a goal and play so well in the games he has played has been a real positive. I love working with the lad – he is so infectious and very popular in the changing room.

“It is another step in the right direction for Ben, in terms of him carrying on improving as a Millwall player.”
