Bermondsey’s Ted Cheeseman posts emotional message after British title defeat
Ted Cheeseman has thanked his friends and family for their support – with the Bermondsey fighter set to take a break from the sport after losing his British super-welterweight title at the weekend.
Cheeseman was knocked out in the 11th round by Troy Williamson at Liverpool’s M&S Arena.
The 26-year-old’s record drops to 17-3-1.
Cheeseman has been in a succession of gruelling but exciting fights. He estimates a gambling addiction cost him more than £1million before he sought professional help.
The South Londoner posted a message on Instagram yesterday. He said: “To say I’m gutted is the understatement but I’m 26 years old I got a beautiful fiancé @oreillyjenna a lovely little boy @tedcheeseman_junior and a very supportive family and team.
“Three years ago I was down and out after the Garcia fight, a secret gambling addict and my coach @tonysims_ & Tony’s mate Bryn got me into @sportingchanceclinic.

“I turned my life around become two-time British champion and ranked numner four in the world when 99 per cent of other coaches and teams would of left me in the gutter. So I can only thank them for their help/support.
“I now have a successful building company, I’m currently renovating @ocheesesbar to open very soon and my life is in a great position all round. Last night never went the way I wanted it too but now can have a good long rest nice holiday and sit down with my team and decide what’s next for me in my life.
“Had loads of nice messages of support and gained a lot of respect from all of the FOTY contenders I’ve put on for everyone, thanks for all the continued support from you all and a special thanks to @oreillyjenna @cheese1969 @tonysims_ @charlessims_ @matchroomboxing and all my family/friends for all the support they have give me and all the opportunities I have been given. It’s much appreciated. I hope I’ve given you all a good journey up to now but now time to rest and recover and we’ll go from there.”
