Beth Lumsden completes move to Charlton Athletic Women

BY JOSHUA BUNTING

Charlton Athletic Women have completed the signing of Beth Lumsden ahead of the 2020-21 season.

The former Millwall Lionesses midfielder returns to football after a year out of the game.

Lumsden came through the academy system at FA Women’s Super League club giants Arsenal. She also spent time with Chelsea prior to moving to Millwall Lionesses.

On signing for the Addicks the 21-year-said:  “I am so excited to get the season underway.

“It is a privilege to wear the badge. I can’t wait for the season to start and to be involved in such an ambitious club.

“Having bundles of experienced players around me is great for me. I have learnt so much in the short space of time since signing and I cannot wait to keep learning from the great players around me.”

Lumsden joins Lewes duo Ella Powell and Jess King as new arrivals at The Oakwood ahead of the new campaign.

Meanwhile forward Rea Laudat has re-signed with the club for the 2020/21 season.

The 26-year-old signed for the Addicks from Crystal Palace in February, making her debut against Leicester City, before the season was curtailed due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Laudat told the club website crossing south-east London had been “a good move in my career”.

“Charlton is a club that is going to help me grow in my footballing abilities,” she said. “I am happy to be a part of this team and excited for the new season to begin.”

On aims for the season ahead, Laudat added: “Individually I would like to take my game to the next level, and as a team I want us to play good football and for it to be a winning season for us.”

Laudat had represented Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, with four seasons at the San Francisco-based Academy of Art University Women’s soccer team in between those stints, before signing with Palace.

She joins Grace Coombs, Lilli Maple, Alice Griffiths, Rachel Newborough, Charley Clifford, Ellie Dorey and Jenna Legg as they have penned new contracts with the club for 2020/2021.

The Addicks begin their season with a derby clash with Crystal Palace in the FA Women’s Championship on Sunday September 6.
