Birmingham City keeping tabs on Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips

Birmingham City are interested in Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Dillon Phillips.

The 24-year-old shotstopper is due to be out of contract at the end of June 2021. He would be able to leave SE7 for nothing if he stays on his existing terms.

The Addicks will struggle to put together a salary package to tempt the academy product to stay – even if they were not currently under a transfer embargo preventing them offering wages of less than £1,300 a week. The League One salary cap is £2,000 a week.

Phillips would be expecting improved terms after an excellent last campaign was crowned by winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

Blackburn Rovers have also looked at the Charlton man.

Birmingham look set to make funds available to new manager Aitor Karanka after the big-money sale of Jude Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund.

It remains to be seen if the Addicks are in the financial position to resist any offers for Phillips, something that looks more likely to be the case if Thomas Sandgaard is able to complete his takeover of the club.
