Blackburn Rovers chief happy that technical approach paid off in victory at Millwall

BY KAI BENNETT
Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray reckoned that picking a technical midfield helped them cope with Millwall’s physical approach.
Goals from Bradley Dack and Sam Gallagher in each half tamed the Lions yesterday
Mowbray said: “It’s always a difficult place to come because they ask physical questions of you really. We didn’t gamble but we picked a pretty technical team – pretty technical midfield – thinking we needed to try and keep the ball off them, rather than go to war with them and ultimately it paid off.
“John Buckley did exceptionally well, [Tom] Trybull showed class really today, I played [Bradley] Dack in the midfield zone today as an eight, playing pretty high.
“The balance of the team looked alright, I have to mention Tyrese [Dolan] was like a whirlwind out there for us really, closing their back three down.
“The balance of the team was good. They defended really well, we didn’t ask the full-backs too play as high today. We played the attackers wider and it seemed to work pretty well for the team.”
