Bolton not currently plotting January transfer move for Dons forward

League One side Bolton Wanderers are reportedly not considering a move for AFC Wimbledon forward Ayoub Assal in this January transfer window.

The Bolton News are reporting that Ian Evatt’s side are currently not plotting a move for Assal.

Assal, who qualifies to play for Morroco but has trained with England at U20 level, has scored 10 goals and recorded five assists in his 31 appearances this season under Johnnie Jackson.

However, due to illness, he has been missing since the start of January.

The South London Press understands that there has been interest from the Middle East in Assal this January.

Forward Assal, 20, made his first-team league debut under head coach Mark Robinson in March 2021 and has made 97 appearances in all competitions for the Dons.

Bolton are fifth in League One – nine points off the automatic play-off spots – and are unbeaten in their previous five outings.

Assal won the EFL Young Player of the Month award for November after he racked up five goals and helped the Dons two wins in League Two, two EFL Trophy draws and a win over Weymouth in the FA Cup.

“It’s a great achievement to win this award. It’s a compliment to myself for the work I’ve put in and also a compliment to the Club and to the team,” Assal said.

“We’ve really kicked on over the past few months, and this is the cherry on the top.

“I definitely feel like I’m playing my best football at the moment, but as I always say, there’s still room for improvement. I can sharpen up in the final third off the ball, but I’m getting there, slowly and gradually.”
