Borussia Dortmund confirm £73m deal for Jadon Sancho to join Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Manchester United will pay £73million for South Londoner Jadon Sancho.

Kennington-raised Sancho is yet to pass a medical but the terms of the transfer have been finalised.

A statement by his Bundesliga employers said: “Jadon Sancho is about to move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United Football Club Limited.

“Both clubs and the player reached an agreement on this today. If the transfer is realised, Manchester United will pay BVB a fixed transfer fee of EUR 85.0 million.

“The contractual details now have to be coordinated and documented. The formal processing of the transfer is also subject to the successful completion of all necessary medical tests and examinations, a coordination procedure with the player’s previous club and the proper and timely processing in accordance with the provisions of the FIFA Transfer Matching System.

“With the implementation of this transfer business, the management expects a positive effect on the key earning figures, for the 2021-22 financial year in the amount of around EUR 56.0 million.”

Borussia Dortmund also held a press conference on Thursday morning to present new manager Marco Rose, and chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke discussed Sancho as well.

Watzke said: “There is an agreement in principle with Manchester United. Formal things still have to be clarified. It was Jadon’s wish to change, we would have liked to keep him.

“We are not happy about the money, but sad that he’s leaving.”
