Brentford boss Frank: Millwall got their preparation for us spot on

BY KAI BENNETT

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank admitted that the 0-0 draw against Millwall was a “fair result” and praised the South London club’s prep work.

The clean sheet was Millwall’s 17th of the season – one more than they managed in the previous campaign.

Frank said: “[Our performance] was flat. It was not a lack of passion, hard work, will, effort or attitude at all. We did a lot of running. It’s just when you’re not 100 per cent on it in a game against Millwall, who we know are really strong defensively and they’ve been like that all season. We didn’t have enough one-versus-one action until Sergi [Canos] came on in the second half and that wasn’t enough.

“We had opportunities up until our final pass, decision [making], shot, touch [which let us down]. All of that was not sharp enough. Millwall did well to defend. It was difficult for us, to create clearcut chances where we could shoot.

“We’ve changed the system, which looked really good against Preston. We were hoping we could build on that result and gain some momentum and confidence. Every game has it’s own history and Millwall would’ve seen what we did to Preston and they prepared very well. However, we can only look at ourselves. We know we need to do better.

“We need to do better. But also you have to realise in the Championship, you don’t win every game 5-0. We are struggling to win the tight games at this moment in time and there’s also a lot of positives [to take]. A clean sheet and now three [clean sheets] in a row.

“Today was a fair result.

“We didn’t get enough crosses into the box or gain entry into the 18-yard box enough. Last game our system looked really good, but I knew it would be a difficult game today.”
