Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa has been sold to Brentford – with no fee announced for the England under-21 international.

Our paper exclusively revealed this morning that the Addicks were ready to listen to bid for the young centre-back and striker Josh Magennis.

Konsa has signed a three-year contract with the Bees, who also have an option of extending that by a further 12 months.

Konsa told Charlton’s official website: “Charlton has played such a huge part in my life and I want to thank people like Steve Avory, Joe Francis and Jason Euell for all of the help and guidance they have given me over the years.

“I joined this club when I was an U11 and it means a lot to me to be able to say that I came from Charlton’s academy. I wish the club and the fans all the success in the future and now I’m looking forward to a new challenge and testing myself in the Championship.”

Despite links to the Premier League, Konsa’s performances for Charlton looked unlikely to lead to a top-flight move as they were solid rather than standout.

And Brentford have offered Konsa the chance to ply his trade in the Championship next season.
