‘Brilliant, brilliant position’ – Millwall boss Rowett doesn’t want reverse to detract from his players’ efforts

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has described his side as being in a “brilliant, brilliant position” heading into the Championship crunch.

The Lions lost 1-0 to Huddersfield Town on Saturday in their final action before the international break.

Millwall are sixth in the table and are back in league action on April 1 at promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion.

Asked about this being a period for his squad to recharge, Rowett said: “You have to accept that everyone gets the same break. Whether you have won, lost or drawn – in good form or bad form – is kind of irrelevant. We’ve got players who have put an awful lot of effort into this period of games.

“If you’d have looked at that period then as much as we’re disappointed to lose, we beat Sheffield United here and drawn with Burnley here. We’ve taken some big scalps here and played really well in games. We have to accept that we’re going into the break a little bit disappointed (after losing to Huddersfield).

“You can’t let it take away from what the players have done and the position the players have put themselves in. It’s still a brilliant, brilliant position – to be in the top six, with a three-point advantage, with eight games left.

“You can’t have too many games like today (Saturday) where you don’t quite do enough to win a game.”
