Brixton basketball star frustrated at lack of action as he eyes mentoring role for South London youngsters

Brixton basketball star Justin Robinson is frustrated at not being able to play the game he loves at home, with lockdown halting the London Lions’ season.

The 32-year-old former Team GB ace came through the crucial Brixton Topcats regime under the inspirational Jimmy Rogers.

Robinson said: “I was brought up in Brixton. I started playing on my estate with friends for fun. The coaching under Jimmy Rogers and Jabbar Kassim really helped develop my game.

“It’s a shame there are no decent indoor basketball arenas in South

London. You would think with Brixton Topcats, who have produced the best players in the country, that there would be a luxury basketball arena available to everyone.

“Jimmy Rogers is the reason I am here today. He’s everything to me, my words aren’t even enough to explain my love for him. He is a mentor, father figure, coach and friend.

“After playing professional, I’d like to go into mentoring and coaching, using my expertise and life experiences to help at-risk youths and young adults in my area. There are a lot of issues affecting the black community. I’d like to use my position to help steer youth away from some of those issues that have plagued us for so long.”
